What foreigners who will apply for Turkish citizenship need most is a complete and correctly prepared document list. Because even the smallest document error in citizenship processes can lead to prolongation or rejection of the application. For this reason, it is as important to know which documents are required as it is to know how to prepare these documents.

Although it varies according to the type of application, generally passport, birth certificate, marital status certificate, residence record, biometric photograph, documents showing income status, criminal record, immovable or investment documents, expertise reports and application form are required. If family members are to be included in the application, separate documents for spouse and children must be submitted.

Since most of the documents will be obtained from a foreign country, translation, notarisation and apostille procedures are required. Mistakes made at this stage may cause the file to be technically invalid. Especially date mismatch, missing signature, incorrect translation or incorrect apostille process are very common problems.

In citizenship applications, the document file is not just a formality. The administration assesses the applicant’s identity, marital status, ties with Turkey, income status and the grounds for the application on the basis of these documents.
